Our Story

Rooted in Cape Town’s southern peninsula where mountains and ocean
so vividly connect, Sealand was born with a conviction of keeping the
environment front and centre alongside inspired functional designs and
longevity. Smart material selection, compelling functionality and product
durability are all palpable features of what we make.
Our Story
Our start-up team lives the Sealand brand with combined passions for
business, for the wondrous outdoors, for life. While Mike Schlebach and Jasper
Eales are known as the founders of Sealand, it is the studio crew that drives us.
Amongst the Sealand family sit big wave surfers, innovative oddballs, highly
skilled craftsmen and women, and some of the widest smiles the African
continent has to offer.

Together, we are the creative minds and fabrication specialists behind Sealand
Gear, bringing inspired design in upcycled material texture combinations from
the drawing board to the rack.
  • Joelle Mukendi

Joelle has a strong passion and drive for what she does. Focused, determined and skilled, Joelle is a key member of our studio crew. Although she may seem quiet at first, once you get to know her you'll quickly discover that she's actually quite the comedian.

  • Richard “Richmund” Khan

Richmund has been around since the beginning and captains the engine room here at Sealand. By engine room we mean cutting department and this is where a lot of the magic happens. Hailing from Malawi, this young man has powered a life in South Africa for his little daughter and wife and is a passionate co worker that loves to make Malawi style reggae.

  • Nonzukiso “Zuki” Mgqeba

Zuki is our second Jack of all trades and master of most. Being our operations person means that she is in charge of quality checking, orders, stock control and other cool stuff. And she gets to make our little Sealand bakkie look cool around town. An avid sportsperson and team player of note, this young lady is quick out of the blocks at whatever she is doing.
